Potential Paralympians make a splash in Barnsley
The Metrodome in Barnsley was host to some of South Yorkshire’s most gifted disabled swimmers at a talent identification day held on March 4th. The event, coordinated by Links Sports Partnership, and the South Yorkshire Competition Managers, involved almost forty swimmers from Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley.

South Yorkshire Playground 2 Podium Ability Day
Organisers of the recent Playground to Podium Ability Event at EIS Sheffield were delighted with the high attendance. Over 150 young people with a disability from every School Sports Partnerships in Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley attended the event, which is part of a wider talent identification programme, working towards the 2012 Paralympics.

New Essentially Dance Course
Essentially Dance is a new national scheme to get children and adults involved in ballroom dancing based on the huge success of the BBC TV show, Strictly Come Dancing. Colleagues who developed this programme from the Rawmarsh SSP and high profile participants in the TV show are involved in providing the training, the celebration and competition elements.
We have successfully engaged 13 schools in the pilot round of Essentially Dance and entertained more that 500 children and adults at the Civic Hall on 2 evenings at the Ballroom blitz and Winter Wonderland Waltz

Winter Wonderland Waltz
The Winter Wonderland Waltz was held on Tuesday 1st December at Barnsley Civic and was the second of three celebration events. Over 140 children from 7 primary and 3 secondary schools attended the event and were watched by over 100 parents, grandparents and siblings.
The event has proved a huge success with nearly double the amount of dancers and spectators as the first event. We have already started to plan the next event and look forward in seeing you there.

KS3 Girls Rugby Roadshow
The South Yorkshire RFU Rugby Development Team with Barnsley RUFC organised a Rugby Roadshow at Barnsley RUFC to increase participation in the female side of the game at Barnsley RUFC. The pupils aged between Y7 and Y9 (U12 to U14) practiced tackling and playing the game. In total there was 72 pupils involved from all schools.
Jonathan Rickerby RFU RDO: “The day was well supported by the Schools but also the Competition Manager who really sold the idea to the participating schools. The Rugby Club has supported girls rugby from Day one and this has led them to be successful in this area”
Y 5/6 Family Football Competitions
The Year 5/6 Boys & Girls Family Football Competitions have now concluded with the finals being played at Oakwell on Tuesday 10th and Thursday 12th November. Well done to all the schools who qualified for the finals through their family events. The winners and runners up of each competition will now qualify for the South Yorkshire finals which will take place over the next couple of months. For more details click on the links below.

Barnsley School Sport Partnership Conference
The annual Barnsley School Sport Partnership Conference took place on Monday 21st September at Shaw Lane with around 100 delegates attending. A highlight of the conference was pupils from Silkstone Primary School performing a number of dances as a results of their involvement with the Essentially Dance programme. Young Barnsley Swimmers Shine at Aqua Festival
Dozens of young Barnsley swimmers got their chance to shine recently at the Metrodome when the popular Leisure Complex held its Annual Aqua Gala for 16 schools in the area.

Barnsley Ballroom Blitz
Over 200 children and adults took part in the first ever Barnsley Ballroom Blitz at Barnsley Civic on Tuesday 14th July. 5 Primary schools were involved in the evening (Birkwood, Burton Rd, St Dominics, High View, Silkstone) and 3 Secondary Schools (Holgate, Priory, St Michaels). Head teachers and staff along with parents were present to support the children whilst they were taking part in the event.
